Trekking to Dolpa via Jomsom offers opportunities to visit ancient villages, high passes, beautiful Lakes, isolated Buddhist monasteries and also to experience the vast array of wildlife inhabiting the region, including Blue sheep, Mountain Goat, Jackal, Wolf and the legendary Snow Leopard. Trekking to Lower Dolpa via Jomsom is a challenging remote valley trek involving five passes above 5000m. it has only been permitted since mid-1989. The region lies to the west of the Kali Gandaki Valley; Dolpo is located inside the Shey-Phoksundo National Park in mid-western Nepal, behind the Dhaulagiri massif, towards the Tibetan plateau. This remains a truly isolated corner of Nepal, time has stood still here for centuries as inhabitants of Tibetan stock continue to live, cultivate and trade. This trip covers you the traditional salt route from Dunai the headquarter of Dolpo District to Shey Phoksundo Lake (Nepal Second Largest Lake) and ancient village of Tibetan civilization.
Day 01: Flight Kathmandu – Pokhara or drive. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Flight Pokhara – Jomsom, walk to Kagbeni (2810 m). Overnight at lodge.
Day 03: Kagbeni (2810 m) – Yak Karkha (3478 m). Overnight at tented camp.
Day 04: Yak Karkha (3478 m) – Sangta (3777 m) via Bhima Lojun La pass (4460 m). Overnight at tented camp. Day 05: Sangta (3777 m) – Ghalden Ghuldun Khola Camp (4247 m) 6 hrs
Day 06: Ghalden Ghuldun Khola Camp (4247 m) – Nulungsumda Kharka (4987 m) via Jungben La pass (5550 m) and Niwas La pass (5120 m). Overnight at tented camp.
Day 07: Nulungsumda Kharka (4987 m) – Chharka Bhot (4302 m). Overnight at tented camp.
Day 08: Rest and exploration day at Chharka Bhot. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 09: Chharka Bhot (4302 m) – Chhap Chu (4320 m). Overnight at tented camp.

We will be staying at 2/3 star hotel in Kathmandu, and camping basis accommodaton during the trek. All rooms (hotel and tented camp) are on twin-shared basis. Single bedroom will be arranged on request and will cost additional. Utmost Adventure will arrange full camping gears, dining tent, kitchen tent, table, chair, toilet tent, twin-shared basis sleeping tent, mattress and sleeping bag.
All meals will be provided during the camping trekking (We will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner with tea/coffee). In Kathmandu, breakfast will be available. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners taking place for guests. While on trek, we have breakfast and dinner in the camping, where we spend the night and pack lunch on our way to next destination.
Physical Condition & Experience Requirements
Jomsom to Lower Dolpa trek is a moderate trek. Trekkers who can walk up to 5-6 hours a day on an uphill and downhill trail and basic hiking experience will consider this trip fulfilling and enjoyable. It is a good idea to prepare for the Jomsom to Lower Dolpa trek by jogging and exercising regularly at least for a month prior to the start. Trekking around Lower Dolpa should be relatively fine for those who have experience in trekking in high altitudes. Determination, good physical health, positive attitude and average physical fitness are good preconditions for a successful accomplishment of the trekking. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skills are required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Utmost Adventure before booking the trek.
Best Time to Travel
The best time for trekking from Jomsom to Lower Dolpa Trek is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). The temperature is moderate and guarantees amazing views throughout the trip.
