Day 01: Kathmandu (1400m)
Pick up from international airport then Transfer to hotel and
handle check in. Short briefing that afternoon followed by orientation
walk. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing
Around
Kathmandu valley: The holy place of Pashupatinath temple, Shoyambhunath
temple, Boudhanath Stupa & Kathmandu Darbar Square), arrange the
necessary permit for Trekking and Climbing. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 03: Kathmandu- Kodari -Zhangmu to Nyalam (3750m) - 148Kms
We
leave Kathmandu early in the morning, driving for 123 km (approximately
5hrs) through the beautiful Nepalese countryside to Kodari, the Nepal -
Tibet border. After completing the immigration formalities at both the
Nepalese and Chinese immigration posts, we drive up 8 km (approximately
½ hrs) a series of incredibly steep switchbacks to Zhangmu on the
Tibetan side of the border. A short drive of only 30km (approximately 1
hrs) from the border takes us to Nyalam, on a steep winding road which
passes through a mossy gully with cascading waterfalls. Overnight at
hotel.
Day 04: Rest day / acclimatization
We spend a rest
day in Nyalam today in order to acclimatize before heading up higher. A
short way out of town there is a small temple, Nyalam Pelgye Ling,
which is associated with Milarepa.
Day 05: Nyalam to Saga (4600m) - 230 kms
Today
we drive approx 8 hrs (250 km) to the huge lake named Peiku-tso
crossing two high passes. After a picnic lunch at bank of Peiku-tso
Lake we continue drive to Saga crossing the Yarlung Tsangpo
(Brahmaputra River). Overnight at hotel / camp.
Day 06 : Saga to Paryang (4750m) -240kms
A
longer day’s drive today, (250 km) 8 hrs approximately, takes us to
Parayang, We continue on across the vast dry plains to the small town
of Parayang. Overnight at hotel / camp.
Day 07: Parayang to Chiu Gompa (4560m) - 280kms
A
longer day’s drive today, 280 km approximately 8 hrs from Parayang, we
set out across the plains to Manasarovar located just 30km south of Mt.
Kailash. The lake is separated from another lake Rakshas Tal, myth has
it here Ravana prayed and had the audience with Shiva. Overnight at
hotel / camp.
Day 08: Chhu Gompa to Darchen (4560m) - 45 kms
Leaving the lake, we drive for about 30 km towards Darchen, the Base Camp of Kailash. Overnight at hotel / camp.
Day 09: Darchen to Driraphuk (4775m) – 26 kms
Drive
about 5 km to Tarboche, this is the starting point for our kora, the
53km trek around the mountain. From Tarboche, we walk up the Lha Chu
Valley through beautiful green meadows and streams with Mt Kailash
towering above us. Those who do want wish to trek around Kailash can go
back to Mansorovar or Darchen and wait for the kora group to return.
Overnight at camp.
Day 10: Driraphuk to Zuthul Puk (4700m) – 22 kms
We
now leave the Lha Chu Valley and enter the Drolma Chu Valley, heading
up towards a high pass, the Drolma La (5630m). It’s a tough climb to
the summit which is festooned with prayer flags but from there, it is
all downhill or flat to Zutul-puk. Overnight at camp.
Day 11: Zuthul Puk to Hor Qu (4560m)
On
the final day of the kora we cross several streams. We then enter the
Bharka plain and it’s about an hour’s walk through this desert-like
landscape to Darchen. We board the car waiting at Darchen and drive
approx 2 hrs to Manasarovar. Overnight at hotel / camp.
Day 12: Hor Qu to Paryang (4750m)
The day to get back from the journey. Drive down to Paryang. Overnight at hotel / camp
Day 13: Drive to Saga (4600m)
We continue driving today along a 250km stretch of road to Saga.
Day 14: Drive to Nyalamu (3750m)
Leaving Saga, we again cross the Yarlung Tsangpo by ferry, and pass by Peiku-tso before arriving back at Nyalam.
Day 15: Drive to Kathmandu (1400m)
From
Nyalam, we head back to the border town of Zhangmu. From Zhangmu, it’s
a short drive to the Friendship Bridge which spans the Bhote Kosi River
and marks the Chinese - Nepalese border. We say goodbye to our Tibetan
guide and driver and walk to Nepalese Immigration Control in Kodari
where we will be met by our Nepalese staff. After completing the
re-entry formalities we continue the drive to Kathmandu which,
depending on road and weather conditions, should take about 5-6 hours.
Day 16: Departure: Transfer to airport for final departure to onward destination.

SPECIAL INTRODUCTION FOR MOUNT KAILASH TRAVELERS
BEST SEASON: May, June, July, August, September
VISA PROCEDURES: Those travelers visiting Tibet necessitate special travel permits only obtainable by approved travel agents. Arriving tourists in Kathamndu with Chinese visas issued by Embassies in their own countries regarded as invalid in entering into Tibet. A requisition of as a minimum 30 days time span in processing Tibet visa via Lhasa is predictable as Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu itself takes generally 5 days for this proceeding.
THE ROAD: The land is dry in Tibet and the road is under reconstructions. Sometime landslide may block the roads but there is no need to worry, because “Chinese Army road builders” are on duty every few Km. The drive to Mt. Kailash is an incredible trip, you will be able to see the world highest Himalayas in the southern range, you will drive in the world highest plateau, meet Tibetan nomads, pilgrims and chanting monks.
WEATHER CONDITIONS IN TIBET: The Tibet climate is dry, cold and windy. Weather can change unexpectedly at any time. It is strongly suggested to wear appropriately, with comfortable walking shoes. Be sure to bring warm cloths, your personal medications and personal toilet items: these items are difficult to get in western Tibet.
RECOMMENDED CLOTHING ITEMS: Down jacket, warm sweaters and shirts, warm trousers, thermal under wear, high neck, long johns, gloves, warm cap and scarf, raincoat or windbreaker jacket, sun hat, trekking shoes with woolen socks, comfortable warm sandal for evening air pillow if needed, towel, torch with extra bulb and batteries, sunglasses, high UV sun protecting cream, lip balm, walking sticks if needed, alarm clock if needed, personal toilet items.
NOTE: Sleeping bags and jackets for temperatures of minus 20o C and hot water bottle will be provided by Utmost Adventure Trekking Pvt. Ltd.
ALTITUDE PROBLEMS: As you are traveling at high elevation, you may be affected by altitude sickness (mainly headache, loss of appetite) until your body has adjusted to the elevation. This can take a few hours to a couple of days depending on individuals. Take it lightly, but drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquids and soups. Proper hydration is critical to acclimatization. NOTE: Utmost Adventure Trekking Pvt. Ltd. will provide oxygen, diamox tablets.
HEALTH AND MEDICINE: It is difficult to find medication shops on the way to Mt. Kailash. Therefore, it is better to carry first aid kit and be aware of the possible problems before starting your trip. While on tour/trekking, the following problems can occur.
• Upset stomach, often caused by change in diet or contaminated food and water is a common ailment. To avoid it, one should pay particular attention to the quality of food and drinks taken on own initiative along the traveling route.
• Cough, cold, sore throats, common in the dry mountain area, can lead to chest infection. Sore throats can best be avoided by attempting not to breathe cold air directly through the mouth. Smoking should also be avoided.
• Joint muscle strains, foot problems and blisters are other hindrances for travelers. Wearing good footwear will help avoiding these problems. A good walking training is obviously the best prevention.
• Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a fatal sickness caused by random altitude ascension. Therefore, climbers ascending 3’000 meters or above should acquire knowledge of proper acclimatization processes. Symptoms of AMS include headache, loss of appetite, swelling of limbs, dizziness, and difficulty in sleeping, irregular breathing, nausea and unusual weariness. Maintaining good fluid intake helps combat altitude sickness. In very acute cases a hurried descent or evacuation to lower altitude is the only effective cure.
OUR EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS: We always take highest quality equipment in high altitude trek and tour. Our tents are made of heavy coated water proof fabric, the inner fly is made of high quality cotton fabric and the floor is made of 100% water proof heavy nylon tarpaulin, poles are made of strong aluminum. The capacity of each tent is 3 persons but we are using them for 2 persons for the comfort of the clients. Beside tents, we provide warm sleeping bags and sleeping mattresses for our clients during the trip.
IMPORTANT PRE – DEPARTURE INFORMATION: Since long time we are traveling in the most remote parts of the world. Most of the time we will be away from modern civilization. We must be well equipped. The group will overnight in Guesthouses or trekking style tented camps. For camping we will provide tents, mattresses and sleeping bags. The dinning tent is our meeting place and reading room, a toilet and shower tent will be put up near by. Bed tea will be served in your tent after a wake-up call at around 8 a.m. (Chinese time). A hot breakfast will be served at the dinning tent. Our Staff team packs-up the equipment in order to be ready to move at around 11 a.m. We provide you pack lunch at daytime. Our staffs will set up the camp in the evening and the cooking staff will serve you a tea at around 6 p.m. and a dinner at 8 p.m.

However, all the programs in Tibet are conducted strictly under the rules and regulation of the Tibet Tourism Bureau. Therefore, we or Our Tibetan Counterpart shall not be responsible for any change and alterations in the itinerary due to unavoidable circumstances such as landslide, road blockage, flood, snow, and political unrest, cancellation of flight, delay arrival, sicknesses or accidents. Any extra cost occurring because of such a circumstance shall be borne by the clients on the spot. It is strongly advised to our clients to have full insurance against medical and personal accidents. Cancellation insurance is also highly recommended.

However, the management deserves rights to change, modify or alter the program because of unforeseen events like inclement weather, landslides, and road blockades, local political problems or so on, but without changing the quality and the length of the trip. Any extra expenses caused because of these factors should be borne by the clients on the spot. Tour once booked and paid will not be refunded due to client’s personal reasons of cancellation.
